I’ve been quietly working on some new projects I’m bursting at the seams to share with you all (soon)! Most recently, I had a chance to play with a darling new fabric collection that’s just arriving in shops from fellow Riley Blake designer, Melissa Mortensen, called Derby Day. It’s so lovely! And it’s like icing on the cake for this weekends festivities – the Kentucky Derby! I’ve never been to the Derby, but have been to several local Derby celebrations here in Arizona. I just picked up a fun hat for a party this year. I’ll show you a little peek below. Going to the Derby is on my bucket list of things to do. If you’ve been, I’d love to hear more!
Melissa’s new collection was such a joy to sew with. The soft hand and vibrant colors. I am madly in love with the green in this collection and the navy and light blue – oh heck all of it, loving the soft pink!
One of the projects I’ve been quietly working on is a new collection of patterns for children. I was so excited to test out one of the patterns in this gorgeous new line – a little apron. And in the spirit of the Kentucky Derby and the sweet little scatter of horses found throughout this collection, I thought it only fitting to add a little horse applique to the apron.
What do you think of puffy hair? hehe 🙂 Did I mention I love the main floral print so much too and the sweet little bows! Really cute. You will melt over the charming illustrations throughout.
Melissa’s gorgeous fabric never disappoints. Happy sewing sweet things with it and to a fabulous Derby weekend (and Cinco de Mayo)! This collection is now available in stores. I’ll be sharing more about my upcoming patterns early summer.
P.S. I little peek at my hat … loving all the navy! xo Elea
I’ve never been to the Derby either, but would love to go. I look forward to seeing how everyone is dressed and the excitement of the race. Can’t wait to see what your creative mind is up too!
