Today is day 10 and the last day of the Strawberry Biscuit Blog Hop with Penny Rose Fabrics! What an amazing ride it’s been! Wow! I’ve even been back for seconds and thirds on each blog, have you, too? … so much inspiration! Well, today on the hop we finish with a wonderful talent that I just adore and I’ll also be sharing some of my Strawberry Biscuit makes over the last few weeks here, too. You ready for some Friday inspiration?!
First stop on the hop today is a super talented gal that provides endless inspiration to many. Christa is an amazing quilter and pattern designer offering her gorgeous quilts in her lovely shops, Cotton Berry Quilts and kits at Cotton Berry Fabrics. Her blog overflows with inspiration and gorgeous details down to every last stitch. It’s breathtakingly beautiful. I couldn’t be more thrilled to have Christa join me on the hop today to share her Strawberry Biscuit inspiration! I’m a big fan of hers, for sure … and you’re going to LOVE, love, love the projects Christa is sharing today! I’m not really even sure where to start to express the beauty in just this tiny peek below. I mean … wow! What a fresh and charming pattern of dashing tulips on this quilt and then … double wow … how gorgeous is the quilting, too?! Well there is much more over at Christa’s blog. Let’s hop over together to soak up all the beauty over there! It’s simply amazing!
And here we are back at the last stop on the hop … me. Sigh. I’m beyond grateful for all the lovely projects my eyes have seen over the past few weeks. I’m not sure I could ever thank this wonderful community of ladies enough for sharing their sweet inspiration with all of us. It means a tremendous amount to me and I hope you will join me in sending each and every one of them extra hearts and sweet notes.
Before I say farewell to the Strawberry Biscuit Blog Hop, I’d love to leave you with a few creations of my own and tell you a little bit about my thoughts on creating this collection.
I started this collection over a year ago, last March 2015. I had an idea in my head of a Strawberry Picnic theme with a fun cheater print that would make sweet quilts, dresses and toys for park play dates with friends. I dreamed the collection would have plenty of sweet strawberries. Because I’m pretty sure I’d be happy with Strawberry almost anything – and lots and lots of flowers (my favorites!). And of course, every picnic is a little merrier with friends along … so then there were bears and bunnies enjoying strawberry cake and playing in the sunshine, too.
The name Strawberry Biscuit arrived after a few rounds of phone calls to my mom (my poor dear mom, I’m so blessed to have her ear over these funny things). I was first stuck on the name, Blue Skies & Strawberry Pies, and the cake in the Play Date print (shown above on the bunny dress) was at one point a pie. But then that name seemed a little too long and not all the prints had “blue” skies … some green and pink. So I changed it. But I do love that song Blue Skies by the beloved, Ella Fitzgerald. Have you ever heard it?! You can take a listen here while you read on, if you’d like. She mentions blue birds in the song as well … and my heart just lights up for sweet blue birds (but you could probably tell *wink).
Long story short, that name was eventually scratched off my list along with a dozen others … until I thought about biscuits. The word, “biscuits” conjures up a comforting and nostalgic feeling in me. It reminds me of the buttery, southern-type biscuits my mom and grandma would make when I was little (bty … have you seen this video?! Makes me miss my grandma!). But it also reminds me of the sweet, cookie treats called biscuits in other parts of the world. The name Strawberry Biscuit eventually came to be … and my mom helped me sort out all the swirling thoughts on names in my head. For months after, I had biscuits and strawberry jelly on my mind (*smirk). My hope with Strawberry Biscuit is that it brings to life sweet little treasures that bring joy and playfulness to our lives.
I expanding the color palette in this collection to include some deep blues and variety of pinks, garden greens and bright aquas. The baby pink and apple red in this collection are my favorite colors joining me from Little Joys and Milk, Sugar & Flower, too.
I want to close by sharing that Strawberry Biscuit is also a part of something super near to my heart and I am so excited to share it with you soon. This collection is featured in my new book of quilt patterns called, Pretty Playtime Quilts. If you didn’t have a chance to see this post yesterday, I invite you to take a moment to read some of the fun details inside the pages along with a few peeks at the projects. The book should be arriving any day and I can hardly stand the wait … I’ve been a busy bee creating projects from the book for something REALLY exciting coming up next month … any guesses? The little house above is a block from the book turned into a mini to celebrate our recent move into a new home. I love the fussy cut bunny and bird for a peek through the door and window.
Here is another block from one of my patterns called, Furry Friends. Complete with little bonnets and bow ties – these bunny, kitty and bear blocks are so much fun to make!
And one last little peek … BOWS!! This girl can never have enough bows on things, and one of my favorite patterns from the book is called, Little Bow Sweet. It’s full of hearts and big bows! These bow blocks play so well with this collection, too – have you spotted the different little bows in Strawberry Biscuit? There is lots more to share, including a fun announcement coming up really SOON … let’s just say I’d love for you to save the date, Monday, May 16th! Grab your pink highlighter and circle it on your calendar, will ya lol – there is more fun ahead with Pretty Playtime Quilts and Strawberry Biscuit!
Goodbye for now … thank you so SO very much for following along the Blog Hop with Penny Rose Fabrics. I am so thankful for the kind words and encouragement and, once again, for the amazing ladies that have joined me. I hope you’ve enjoyed the inspiration and please do share your Strawberry Biscuit creations, too. Tag me or send me a note. My favorite thing in the whole world is seeing what inspires you and what you make. The list of all the bloggers on the hop are below – if you missed any hops, please stop by and say hello!
Hugs and thank you, again! Elea

HI, lovely collection! Love all your projects! Thanks for sharing on your blog+a great Giveaway too!
Elea, you are just a treasure as a person and as a designer! You bring so much happiness to others through your tender, lovely fabric. Thank you so much for including me in your hop. I have a guess about what might be coming, but maybe I’m completely wrong and. But now I’m sure wondering if I’m right!?! Do you have a really important purpose for all your sewing??? 😉
Elea! Thank you so much for letting me be a part of your bloghop! You are truly an inspiration and I couldn’t have made that diaper bag without your fabric!!! Seriously. It’s lovely to read where your inspiration comes from and see your designs come to life. Strawberry biscuit is a perfect name and seriously, my husband keeps chanting it lol (he’s weird like that). I can’t wait for your next fabric line…because I’ve been stalking that one too hehehe. And the book…the book! Can’t wait friend!!!
Best wishes,
Karen
Hi Elea, This has been a wonderful little journey that you have invited me to be part of. I love your fabric, so sweet and and reminiscent of my childhood in a more innocent time. Everyone’s work capturing the essence of your fabric and extending their skills as well, I have truly loved it.
Thanks
Glenis
Thank you for sharing the story behind the fabric and video! I’m really looking forward to receiving my book and fabric in the mail. I’ve also really enjoyed seeing all the wonderful projects in the blog hop.
Hi Elea, I have just loved so much being a part of your journey on this blog hop. It’s been such a wonderful, inspiring experience and I cannot thank you enough! Your fabrics are just so beautiful, I loved reading a little behind the scenes on your creative process. And your makes….well they are just pretty amazing too! How sweet is the bunny dress!? I’m so excited for you and your book launch – I’m no quilter but I have to say this book is pretty tempting. My guesses as to you upcoming excitement is………..you are going to quilt market to display your book? Am I right or am I right? 😉 Thank you so much again, Megan xoxo
