Made for Baby Blog Tour & Bow Tie Card for Father’s Day!

Free Projects· Inspiration

Hello there! I’m overjoyed to share with you my projects from the sweet new book, Made for Baby, by the talented Ayda Algin – on my stop on the blog tour today! This book is full of delightful projects for sweet gifts and precious little ones. And the lovely photos and charming details that Ayda poured into every project make my heart so happy! There are so many wonderful things to make in this book, it was hard to decide which project to start with first!

In the spirit of Father’s Day quickly approaching on June 18th, and inspired by all the boys that live in my house (two littles and one big (my husband)), I decided to start with the Tiny Bow Ties pattern using material from my boys’ outgrown dress shirts. I made one, then two, three, then four … these sweet little bows were fun to make (and addicting!) – soon I had a heap of them and added a pink gingham and floral fabric ones, too.

The bow ties make darling gifts and I thought they would also be sweet gifted on a card from my boys to their dad for Father’s Day. I created some simple cards in the shape of their dad’s collared work shirts using some colored card stock I had on hand. I adorned the cards with the bows, then I added a few wooden buttons for some extra fun! I’ll have the boys write a special message to their dad on the backside before Father’s Day arrives. I think it will be a sweet surprise!

If you’d like to make these Tiny Bow Ties from the book and place them on your own card, I’ve included the instructions for making your own dress shirt card below, too.

And of course, I couldn’t stop at just one project from the book … I want to make them all!! My second project was the precious Bib with Pocket pattern. My friend has a new baby girl arriving this summer and thought the bib would be a wonderful gift for her. I remember how much I adored the handmade bibs given to me when my boys were little. In fact, I still have and treasure a few of my favorites!

I created the bib using a cheater print and floral from my Strawberry Biscuit collection with a dash of pink gingham and terrycloth on the back. I loved the pattern and plan to make a few more before the baby arrives!

I hope you’ve enjoyed my projects from this darling book, Made for Baby. Thank you so much to Ayda for creating lovely patterns and this sweet book for us to enjoy. Also, Ayda is offering a wonderful giveaway, including a copy of the book and some goodies. Follow her IG at @cafenohut and her blog for the giveaway details!

Next up on the blog tour tomorrow is the talented, Samantha Dorn, at aquapaisleystudio.com/blog. I’ve enjoyed seeing all the beautiful projects and can’t wait to see what Samantha has in store for us tomorrow!

Instructions for making Dad’s Dress Shirt Card for the Tiny Bow Ties

Supplies –
Paper scissors
Wood buttons
Colored card stock
Glue

Cutting instructions –
Colored card stock
Cut (1) 4 3/4 x 5 1/4″ piece from colored card stock
Cut (2) 5 1/4″ x 1″ strips from same card stock

Assembling the Card –
Step 1 – Glue one 1 x 5 1/4″ strip vertically down the center of the front side of the 4 3/4 x 5 1/4″ card
Step 2 – With the remaining 1 x 5 1/4″ strip, fold each short side of the strip inward until the top two corners meet in the middle and are pointing downward as shown in the above photo (creating a collar-look). Glue the collar onto one end of the vertical strip already glued onto the card.
Step 3 – Add a bow created from the Made for Baby book, using the Tiny Bow Ties pattern, under the collar, adhering the bow to the card using whatever method you prefer (glue, pin, tape etc).
Step 4 – Glue wooden buttons into place on the 1″ strip below the bow placement.
Step 5 – Write a sweet message on the backside! xx
