I was looking for an old photo for a project I’m working on … digging deep into computer files I haven’t looked at for years. I stumbled across these photos of a wedding favor tutorial I had the privilege of creating for the Martha Stewart Weddings blog in 2011. I thought it might be fun to share the recipe once more in light of the upcoming popular wedding season and Mother’s Day this Sunday!
If you’re looking for quick and unique favor or gift, you might love this one! My Wildflower Seed Scrub can be mixed up in a large batch and poured into canning jars and sealed. Then topped with your favorite fabric, twine and label – celebrating the occasion. I adore the Mini Mold Jars by Weck (which are the same ones I used for this tutorial back in 2011) – I think my love for these jars has something to do with the vintagey-sweet strawberry on them (part of the Weck branding molded into the glass).
It’s bittersweet to see a project I made stamped with the year 2011 on it! 6 years ago! SIX years. I now have a precious 6-year-old little boy. A lot of life happens in six years.
Feel free to experiment with the recipe. You may like the aroma stronger or lighter, or more or less base oil mixed in. Here’s the recipe:
Wildflower Seed Scrub Favor – Ingredients to make one scrub (2.7 – 3 fl oz). Double, triple ingredients, etc. for making larger batches:
1/3 cup fine grain sea salt
1/2 tsp of dry, crushed petals or wildflower seeds
1 tbsp carrier oil: jojoba, olive, avocado or sweet almond
5-7 drops of essential oils: rose, ylang-ylang and/or jasmine (a few of my all-time favorites)
Directions: Hand mix the sea salt, carrier oil and essential oils in a bowl. Gently add petals or seeds and mix evenly throughout. Pour mixture into small glass canning jar. Cover lid with decorative cloth and secure with twine. Finish with a label. Washroom: Apply exfoliant to body with a gentle circular motion. Rinse with warm water (for external use only).
I was able to find a small media clipping I kept of the original post on the MSW’s blog. The sweetest memories …. treat yourself to a nice long bath or keep the recipe in mind for the next baby shower, wedding favor or treat for a mom in your life. Happy early Mother’s Day to all you moms out there!
