Since I was a child, I’ve had my hand in almost every creative medium – from drawing to sewing to soap making. Today, I still believe in the beauty and timelessness of making things with my hands and continue to do so almost daily through my art studio, Elea Lutz Design. Much of my inspiration comes from my childhood and the time spent with my grandmother. Watching and learning from her: embroidery, crochet, sewing and painting and her delight in it all was a great influence on me. Most of my projects today involve lots of colorful flowers and sweet novelty drawings mixed with a heaping tablespoon of modern charm for good measure. Along this journey, I’ve had the opportunity to meet some of the most talented designers and manufacturers of fine goods and – together – we’ve created some exciting things. In 2015, I released my first fabric collection with Penny Rose Fabrics, sister company to Riley Blake Designs. I currently have five fabric collections with Penny Rose Fabrics. The fabric collections include, Milk, Sugar & Flower, Little Joys, Strawberry Biscuit, Apple Farm, Little Dolly and my newest, Bluebirds on Roses, arriving later this year. And in 2016, it was a dream come true to publish my first book, Pretty Playtime Quilts, with It’s Sew Emma. In 2017, I’ve also had a wonderful opportunity to partner with Riley Blake on a new book that I am over the moon about – keep a look out for Dolly – the sweet book of doll projects to sew and love – arriving to stores now. Additionally, I am so grateful to the wonderful features, media, shops, friends and bloggers that I’ve been lucky to meet along the way. Highlights of some of our collaborations and blog tours from the fabrics and book can be found on my inspiration page. Prior to launching my studio, I created a line of toiletries and lifestyle products from the ground floor under my brand, Nostalgia. The vintage-inspired collection continues to capture hearts and fans. When not dreaming and designing, I can be found roaming antique markets, chasing travel adventures and playing with my husband and two little boys. And, my pup, Duke, is a bright spot in my days. He’s my hat tester (he looks thrilled about it in the photo, right?) and softie smuggler – my office mate in the studio.
